Tanjung Sepat (TanJung Sepat) Day Trip---3
Yek Loong Enterprise (Yulong Fish Ball) & Perniagaan Pau Hai Yew Heng (Haiyouxing Handmade Hainanese Bao)

Have you heard of Tanjung Sepat? Located about an hour and a half’s drive south of Kuala Lumpur, this coastal town faces the Strait of Malacca and has long been known as a fishing village. In recent years, it has gained popularity among locals, attracting many tour buses from afar. Hearing that the seafood here is delicious, and with my parents visiting Malaysia for a short trip, I decided to take a quick getaway nearby and visited Tanjung Sepat. Let’s TABINIKO! This is the third installment of our series.

My comment:
The fourth stop was reached around 4:00 PM. It’s a wholesale fish market, but they also sell fish balls and similar products. This time, I wasn’t after regular fish balls—I was hunting for conger eel balls! Wait, conger eel balls? I’ve never tried them before, so I really want to taste them!! I bought a bag and planned to boil them at home with green onions and a pinch of salt, which would make a light and refreshing conger eel ball soup! The flavor is similar to regular fish balls, but because they’re handmade, they have a delightful chewiness and are delicious.

My comment:
We arrived at the old-town area where souvenir shops are clustered at 16:15. This is our fifth stop. I heard this place is famous for pork buns, coffee, and Yamana (Asian pear, scientific name: Pyrus pyrifolia) drinks, so I’m eager to try some food and drinks! First up, I tried the handmade “pau” (a local term for steamed buns) at Perniagaan Pau Hai Yew Heng. You can choose from pork, BBQ pork, vegetable + meat, plain vegetable, red bean, peanut, and kaya (made with coconut milk and eggs). They’re incredibly affordable, priced between RM2 and RM3. When we arrived, the shop’s owner and his wife were busy preparing the buns. Each one was carefully handmade, and I was truly impressed by their patience. There was a long queue, and everyone was buying multiple buns! Steam was rising, making them fresh and hot off the steamer. The taste was light and delicious.
KWO ZHA B COFFEE:

Right next to Hai You Xing’s handmade Hainanese buns, you’ll find KWO ZHA B COFFEE, a spot that serves up that classic, old-school vibe. They even offer samples, so I decided to take a break and recharge. Besides coffee, they also stock a variety of other drinks, snacks, and ice cream. Prices are very friendly: Black Sugar & Fresh Milk (RM5), Iced Coffee (RM5), Fresh Milk & Chocolate (RM5), Sour Plum (RM4), and Lemon Jelly (RM4). I also spotted something resembling satsuma-age (deep-fried fish cakes) nearby and grabbed some to enjoy.
Mei Mei Sarawak Pear Juice:

I had also wanted to visit Joo Fa Trading, but with it nearly 5 p.m., I just didn’t have enough time. What a pity. Apparently, you can also watch them roast coffee beans there.
There are local kiosks nearby, so you can pick up all sorts of souvenirs!

This kopitiam’s name translates to “Wait a Bit Coffee Shop.” What a fun name! It literally means a coffee shop where you have to wait, likely because there’s only one owner or staff member on duty. Oh, it’s almost 5:30 PM! This is the final episode, so make sure to read till the end!
