Have you heard of Tanjung Sepat? Located just about an hour and a half’s drive south of Kuala Lumpur, this coastal town along the Strait of Malacca was once a quiet fishing village. In recent years, it has grown increasingly popular among locals, with tour buses from far and wide frequently visiting. I’d heard the seafood here is delicious, and since my parents were visiting Malaysia and we wanted a short getaway nearby, I decided to take a trip to Tanjung Sepat. Let’s go TABINIKO! This is Part 2 of our series. Don’t forget to check out Part 1: Tanjung Sepat Day Trip – Part 1

My comment:

The third stop was reached at 1:30 PM. I had heard that they cultivated mushrooms and displayed them, but upon arrival, I was told that the exhibition area wasn’t publicly open. While I couldn’t actually see the cultivation process in action, the site features informative signs explaining and introducing various types of mushrooms and fungi, including reishi (lingzhi), also known as “Mannen-take” (ten-thousand-year mushroom), and wood ear mushrooms, along with their uses. There was also a souvenir shop selling a variety of local products, which made for an interesting visit. You could find items such as dried mushrooms for RM10 per bag, Man-nen-take honey, ginger and lemongrass drinks, coffee (with free tasting available), and many other souvenirs. The shop was bustling with activity!

My comment:

The fourth stop was our next destination, arriving at 1:20 PM. A cassava starch factory? What’s it like? First off, I was a bit surprised to see that the main product looks so much like the actual root vegetable. We took a tour of the factory’s production process. The workers first peel and wash the roots, then presumably slice them, followed by baking. The viewing area was just an open space where you could see everything at a glance, and there wasn’t even a guide explaining the process. Well, admission is free, and you’re free to come and go as you please. The shop selling cassava starch-based snacks is packed with all sorts of treats and local specialties—perfect for souvenirs. And let me tell you, they’re incredibly delicious!
